Africa Hotel Investment Forum

Recently, we attended The Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF). This conference is attended by the highest calibre international hotel investors of any conference in the continent of Africa. It is the leading hotel investment conference that connects business leaders from the international and local markets, driving investment into tourism projects, infrastructure and hotel development across Africa. We were honoured to join our partner in solar thermal, Solarus Sunpower, to this event whereby we connected with many existing and new clients.

Solar Thermal Energy

Solar thermal solutions are ideally suited for clients that require thermal energy. Through our exclusive partnership with unique premium technologies, we are able to provide our clients with a solution to all their water heating requirements.

Major hospitality and industry groups have adopted our solar thermal systems. We appreciate that surface area to install our solution in these sectors is limited; we therefore selected a highly performing solar thermal solution that produces three times more power per installed surface area then traditional PV panels.

Microgrid’s For Remote Locations

Microgrid solutions are applicable for remote sites with little to no grid access. These sites usually run off diesel generators with operational expenses that can run as high as $0.5/kWh. Our microgrid solutions (typically solar hybrid) convert the site to run predominantly off renewable energy, saving large amounts of diesel and cutting the related negative environmental impact.

Through the integration of various technologies, we are able to reduce diesel dependence by up to 80%. Planning and assessment needs to be conducted for projects of this nature. We have implemented some of the largest commercial off-grid projects in Africa and consider ourselves well positioned to provide you with the best possible microgrid solution for your site.

Below are some of our recent projects within the hospitality industry across Africa.

  1. Savute Elephant Lodge

A luxury Lodge situated in the Chobe National Park, Botswana. The site required a completely off grid renewable energy system as there is no grid connectivity in the area. Primary purpose of the installation was to reduce generator diesel consumption and carbon emissions, as previously this site ran on generators only. The remote location adds to logistical challenges of maintaining constant diesel supply.  N.S.E. provided a full EPC/development service implementing complete microgrid and solar thermal solutions, alongside a full AC reticulation across the site. The project included Solar PV, generators, batteries, AC reticulation, and a centralized solar thermal plant with reticulation.  The site now supplements +95 % of its total demand through solar and solar thermal, with an ongoing O&M contract ensuring continuous system performance and optimization.

  1. Nxabega Lodge

A luxury Lodge situated in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. The site required a completely off grid renewable energy system as there is no grid connectivity in the area. Primary purpose of the installation was to reduce generator diesel consumption and carbon emissions, as previously this site ran on generators only. The remote location adds to logistical challenges of maintaining constant diesel supply.  N.S.E. provided a full EPC/development service implementing complete microgrid and solar thermal solutions. The project included Solar PV, generators, batteries, and two upgraded centralized solar thermal plants with reticulation.  The site now supplements +85 % of its total demand through solar and solar thermal, with an ongoing O&M contract ensuring continuous system performance and optimization.

  1. Xaranna Lodge

A luxury Lodge situated in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. The site required a completely off grid renewable energy system as there is no grid connectivity in the area. Primary purpose of the installation was to reduce generator diesel consumption and carbon emissions, as previously this site ran on generators only. The remote location adds to logistical challenges of maintaining constant diesel supply.  N.S.E. provided a full EPC/development service implementing complete microgrid and solar thermal solutions. The project included Solar PV, generators, batteries, and two centralized solar thermal plants with reticulation.  The site now supplements +75 % of its total demand through solar and solar thermal with an ongoing O&M contract ensuring continuous system performance and optimization.

  1. Eagle Island Lodge

A luxury Lodge situated in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. The site required a completely off grid renewable energy system as there is no grid connectivity in the area. Primary purpose of the installation was to reduce generator diesel consumption and carbon emissions, as previously this site ran on generators only. The site now supplements +65 % of it’s total demand through solar with an ongoing O&M contract ensuring continuous system performance and optimization.

 

  1. Duba Lodge

A luxury Lodge situated in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. The site required a completely off grid renewable energy system as there is no grid connectivity in the area. Primary purpose of the installation was to reduce generator diesel consumption and carbon emissions, as previously this site ran on generators only. The remote location adds to logistical challenges of maintaining constant diesel supply.  N.S.E. provided a full EPC/development service implementing complete microgrid and solar thermal solutions, alongside a full AC reticulation across the site. The project included Solar PV, generators, batteries, AC reticulation, and two centralized solar thermal plants with reticulation.  The site now supplements +60 % of its total demand through solar and solar thermal.

 

 

 

  1. Zarafa Lodge

A luxury Lodge located in the Okavango Delta, Botswana.
The site required an upgrade and refurbishment of an existing microgrid solar system. A three-phase upgrade of the existing single-phase renewable energy plant was implemented for the lodge. The upgrade also benefited from a complete automated generator integration control enabling independent system operation.
